The Total Economic Footprint of the Pharma Sector in Bulgaria is Totalling BGN 2.8bn and is 2.2% of the GDP for 2021

Health experts and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry united around the need for a sustainable and predictable environment, guaranteeing the sustainable development of the sector and the access of Bulgarian patients to medicinal treatment

"Economic and strategic contribution of pharmaceutical sector in Bulgaria" — Study for ARPharM, BGPharmA and BATEL

The total contribution that the pharmaceutical industry has provided for the Bulgarian economy in 2021 is estimated at approximately BGN 2.8 billion or 2.2% of the country's gross domestic product, which is in line with the average level for Europe. These and other data were presented for the first time by Mr. Luka Chichov, Executive Director of IQVIA for Central and Eastern Europe, in a report delivered on May 30, 2023 during an expert meeting "Economic and strategic contribution of pharmaceutical sector in Bulgaria".

The meeting is organized by the representative organizations of the pharmaceutical industry in Bulgaria - the Association of Scientific Research Pharmaceutical Manufacturers in Bulgaria (ARPharM), the Bulgarian Generic Pharmaceutical Association (BGPharmA) and the Bulgarian Association of Wholesalers of Medicines (BATEL), with the support of the Confederation of Employers and industrialists in Bulgaria (KRIB), and in partnership with the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria.

The presented report outlines the essential importance of the pharmaceutical sector for the Bulgarian health care and economy, and the contribution of innovative and generic pharmaceutical companies, wholesalers, retailers and clinical trial companies.

“The Future of Patient-Centered Oncology Care in Bulgaria” Round Table

A round table conference on “The Future of Patient-Centered Oncology Care in Bulgaria” was held on October 14, 2016 at the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria. Comparator Report on Patient Access to Cancer Medicines in Europe 2016was presented for the first time in Bulgaria by one of its authors – Dr. Nils Wilking from Karolinska Institute, based in Stockholm. The discussion was attended by leading experts in the field of oncology, representatives of institutions and patient organizations. The participants agreed that the treatment of oncological diseases is at a turning point with treatments providing better outcomes for the individual patient and at macro-level, for society as a whole. Advancements in both the cutting-edge science and the treatment outcomes are changing the profile of cancer from life-threatening to chronic disease, transforming cancer care and most importantly increasing the proportion of cancer survivors.

Workshop on EU Accession and Required Regulatory Activities

On 13th of September 2006 in Hilton Sofia was held a Workshop on EU Accession and Required Regulatory Activities. The participants discussed topics regarding the regulatory activities, which authorities and industry need to undertake prior to Bulgaria's accession to EU, as well as improving the cooperation and dialogue between the companies and the agency. Speakers from EMEA, BDA, EFPIA took part in the event. The participants were greeted welcome on behalf of Ministry of Health by Dr. Svetlana Spasova, Director National Health Policy department.

Workshop

Workshop "Structural Funds and Health" was held on 21 March 2006. in the European Parliament in Brussels from 15.00 to 20.00 in Hall ASP 5G1.

Conference “Challenges of Delivering Health in the Enlarged Europe – Experience and Perspectives from Member States and Accession Countries”

September 29 - October 1, 2006, Sunny Beach, Bulgaria – three-day conference on "Challenges of Delivering Health in the Enlarged Europe – Experience and Perspectives from Member States and Accession Countries" was held. The conference is financed by the European Commission and organised by the Faculty of Public Health of the Medical University, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). A number of significant for the Bulgarian healthcare topics were discussed.
